Sound of Music Youth Edition Audition Information

We are so excited for you to begin preparing for Sound of Music Youth Edition Auditions!

Reminder: Auditions are on October 24th, at 9am. 

Please try to arrive 15 minutes early, so we can begin the check in process, and start Auditions on time.

We will have a Parent Meeting immediately following auditions at 11:30am

Remember, an audition is a 2-3 minute showcase of everything you’ve got: singing, acting, energy and personality! So really invest time in making it a strong representation of what you can do so the directors can see you shine. Also remember, you’re going to be nervous! The best way to combat nerves is preparation. Make sure you practice your audition start to finish in front of as many family and friends as you can. It’ll make you so much more confident!

Audition format:

1. Introduce yourself, name & grade.
2. Tell us which monologue and songs you have selected.
3. Perform your monologue.
4. Perform songs.
5. Say “thank you” & take a seat! (whew, you did it!)

MONOLOGUES

For your The Sound of Music Youth Edition audition please prepare one of the provided monologues below! Note: these do not need to be memorized- just practice and be confident- but you can hold the paper in your hand if needed!

Choosing the right monologue is an important part of your audition preparation. A polished monologue gives you a chance to show off your acting skills and demonstrate your connection to the production.

Here are some suggestions on how to get started!

1) Familiarize yourself with the show!

2) Ask yourself: Which role(s) do I see myself in? Which role(s) do I think the directors will see me in? Consider all of the possibilities!

3) Choose a monologue that captures the essence of the characters that you would like to be considered for, but read through all of the options. Be open to the discovery that this exercise may lead you to!

4) Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Perform your monologue in front of your loved ones and ask for feedback to help you improve your audition and increase your comfort.

5) Memorization is a plus, but is NOT required. Feel free to hold the paper in your hand!

SONG SELECTIONS

There will be 2 tracks for each audition song selection- feel free to rehearse with the guided/vocals track but you will be auditioning with the performance track ONLY. Sheet music is also provided.

If you are interested in a non-singing role ONLY and do not want to be considered for a singing part, you can prepare just a monologue.

GIRLS:

choose 1 from: Sound of Music, Maria, or Climb Every Mountain (note: Maria is meas. 74-95)

choose 1 from: Do Re Mi or Lonely Goatherd (as a single solo)

If you'd like to be considered for Leisel, also prepare 16 going on 17 and you will be paired with a boy

Boys:

If your voice is lower, prepare Edelweiss

If your voice is high/unchanged, prepare Do Re Mi (From above)

If you would like to be considered for Rolf, also prepare 16 Going on 17 and you will be paired with a girl.

Costume Try-On Sign Up

November 8th from 1pm - 5pm or November 15th from 12pm - 3pm

When you arrive, please come for the time slot that you signed up for, if you are early or late, we may not be able to take you.

Please wear a base layer (see base layer information below). 

This will ensure that your costume will fit well, and that you are comfortable on stage.

Please come with your child in their base layer.  We will be trying on all our costumes for the show.

Feb 21 - Performance in Church Service

Students will perform a number from the show, around 10:15 during the Longwood Hills Church Service. 

Feb 21 - Costume Dress Rehearsal

Please arrive in base layers. NO MAKEUP OR HAIR needed. 

Feb 24 and 25 - Dress Rehearsal

Please arrive in Base Layer - We will be running the show in costume with FULL HAIR AND MAKEUP. 

Feb 26 and 27 - SHOWS

 Shows will start at 7pm.

BASE LAYER Information

Base layers at Impact theater are a way for us to allow kids to get into costume and make costume changes backstage.  We ask that you provide your student with the items listed under their character.  If you have any questions about the base layers, please reach out in the WhatsApp Group. Keep in mind that these will be worn under their costume, so lighter weight items will be best.  Please also keep in mind that we will have multiple costume days, where they will be wearing these items. Please try to provide multiple sets of the items, or be sure to wash them between each wearing. 

We will have character specific base layers, and will be sure to update with those after costume try-ons

Makeup 

All cast members should have a base of makeup on for the show.  Some cast members might have additional makeup listed below. 

We recommend getting a stage makeup kit like this one Ben Nye Stage Makeup Kit. Be Sure to get the correct coloring for your child.  This will include most of what you need for the stage, and will last for multiple seasons.
